Gary Thomas

Gary is attending Cannes film festival 2008 with Early One Summer in the short film corner. He is promoting two projects, 'The adventrues of Danny halfpenny', written by charlie Ross, and his script, '2 weddings'.

Gary has completed his 3^rd short film, ‘Early One Summer’ (see more on films). The film stars Charlie Ross, Graeme Dalling And Janet Greaves.

Gary has recently completed an Arts Council funded project with Digital Artist Abbie Norris, ‘Experi(mental) -1. A Collaboration on Exploring The Box.’

The project involved working with Abbie on artist film and video and creating a piece based on Gary’s diary writings. Starting in May 2006, work took place in Lewes, Near Brighton, (UK) on ‘Madness as a Form of Relaxation’ an installation piece working with actor Unai Lopez de armentia. This work will be completed.

In August 2004 Gary received funding from Disability Arts Development Agency South for ‘Coming Out’. This was originally conceived as a split screen gallery installation. In October he went to Poland with the Script Factory on the Scene Insiders training scheme.

In March 2004 he received a training bursary from Screen South, and has since attending classes with Chris Thomas at the directing actors workshop and Elliot Grove’s writers lab, both at Raindance. He also attended the ‘industry reader’ class at the script factory and has read for Raindance productions as a script reader.

In February 2004 he directed and edited a short film ‘He came with wheels’, about a rent boy, his client and a wheelchair. The short was screened in the new short film corner market section at Cannes in May, and screened at the first Liverpool Homotopia exhibition.

Gary originally studied for a degree (BSc) in Digital Imaging whilst working at a local newspaper company. He spent most of 2003 volunteering, firstly spending 6 months with the New Producers Alliance, and then at the London Film Festival where he volunteered in the delegate centre.

He hopes to work on a number of shorts based on his own experience of mental health issues. He is also working on a trilogy of feature film scripts, all dealing with difficult emotions. The first is a new year coming out comedy.
